Offered from the Estate of Art Sobke is this striking vintage 1935–1936 San Diego California International Exposition license plate topper.
The cast metal piece features raised lettering:
1935 SAN DIEGO 1936
CALIFORNIA
INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION
It measures approximately 11 inches wide and has two elongated mounting slots designed for installation as an automobile license plate topper.
Of particular note, there is no visible evidence that this example was ever mounted. The mounting slots and surrounding areas show no apparent scratches, bolt or nut marks, impressions, or other typical mounting wear.
The red and cream painted finish presents exceptionally well. Because the history of the piece is unknown, we cannot confirm whether the paint is original or whether it may have been repainted at some point. We have made no attempt to alter or restore it.
This is a great piece of vintage Southern California automobilia with strong crossover appeal for collectors of:
San Diego history • 1935–1936 Exposition memorabilia • California automobilia • vintage automobiles • license plate toppers • Balboa Park memorabilia • classic cars and hot rods
It would also make a terrific period display or accessory for a vintage car, roadster, hot rod, classic pickup, garage, or Southern California-themed collection. The design has a distinctive prewar San Diego/SoCal character.
Please examine all photographs carefully. They are an important part of the description and show the actual item being offered.
