This “Buy it Now” offering is for a roundsolid wood poker chip caddy containing a full set of vintage clay/compositechips from the 1930s; an additional original vintage cardboard box full ofmatching chips; and a faux alligator leather covered cardboard caddy cover. Thechips are great examples of manufacturing prior to the development of modernplastics in the 1940s and these chips are known to collectors as Plain CenterInterlocking (PD-PZ) clay/composite chips. They are valued up to .50 cents each Dale Seymour’s AntiqueGambling Chips guide. The chips have a nice weight and “ring” to them inplay, unlike the clatter of modern plastic chips. The eight poker chip slots arefilled with at least 26 chips per stack for a total of over 200 chips. Thereare slots for storing two decks of cards in the caddy (cards not included). Theextra box of chips is labelled Stackwell Harvite Poker Chips. The clay-compositematerial of these chips were marketed as “Harvite” by some manufacturers. Thebox contains an additional 100 chips in red, white and blue, bringing the totalchip count in this package to more than 300.
Complete sets like this are hard to find inthis condition. Together, these items would make a nice display for the pokerchip or game collector or would make a great gift for the poker enthusiast.These are standard size 1.5-inch diameter chips.
CONDITION: Thechips are in very good to excellent condition with some variation in tone andpatina. These clay-composite chips are susceptible to dings and I expect thereare some of those, but generally they just show light wear. The carousel is inexcellent condition with no obvious signs of damage and only minor signs of surfacewear (small indentation on top and minor surface scratches and scuffing). Themetal handle and base plate have light rusting. The caddy cover is in excellentcondition with only a couple of tiny areas of fabric loss or wear. The originalvintage cardboard box is in very good condition with only some edge and corner wear,but no splits.
