Man-Thing #3 introduces Ross G. Everbest, the original Foolkiller — a fanatical vigilante armed with his Purification Gun and convinced that the world must be cleansed of anyone he considers a “fool.”
It's exactly the kind of character Steve Gerber could create.
Bizarre, darkly funny and satirical, Foolkiller embodied the offbeat social commentary that distinguished Gerber's Man-Thing from conventional superhero and horror comics. The concept proved durable enough that Marvel would resurrect the Foolkiller identity repeatedly in the decades that followed.
The issue comes from the formative stretch of a run that helped establish Man-Thing alongside Tomb of Dracula and Werewolf by Night as a cornerstone of Marvel's 1970s supernatural renaissance.
With a genuine first appearance, CGC 9.4 grade and White Pages, this is an especially attractive example of an increasingly appreciated Bronze Age Marvel key.
