A fantastic 120-year-old piece of American-themed tobacco and advertising history, issued in 1906 as part of W.D. & H.O. Wills' fascinating “Time & Money in Different Countries” series.
This is Card #46 — UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, professionally graded and encapsulated by CGC at VG/EX+ 4.5.
The striking front artwork presents an allegorical American figure surrounded by wonderful turn-of-the-century U.S. imagery, including an early American silver dollar, a clock representing New York time, the “U.S. AMERICA” designation and period monetary information.
One of the most eye-catching aspects of the artwork is the central bearded figure, whose appearance can certainly remind modern viewers of Abraham Lincoln. However, I have not found definitive period documentation identifying the figure as Lincoln, so it is being described here accurately as an allegorical American figure rather than as an Abraham Lincoln card.
The card also carries prominent FRY'S CHOCOLATES advertising on the front — another terrific piece of early commercial history.
The reverse is equally interesting, identifying the issue as:
